Frequently Asked Questions

Q. I don't know if I have a program installed on my computer to play the audio files from this site. How can I find out / get such a program?

A. If you try to open a media file on this website by clicking on it's link, and it doesn't prompt a program to start loading the file to play, then you can follow one of the links on the left to download either Real Player®, Winamp, Quicktime, or Windows Media Player.  You'll only need one of these programs.  Follow instructions on the vendor's web site to install the program.  Alternately, you can go the the Tucows website and browse through a choice of media players (most are shareware and freeware).

All of the media on Koyukon.org and Denaakke.org have been converted to the Real Media® format (.rm) for ease of use and optimal file sizes.  While we recommend downloading and installing Real Player®, the newest versions of the other players should also be able to play Real Audio® formatted files.

Real Player
®

Real Player is one of the most popular utilities for playing web audio.  Note: the "basic" version is free, although many links to the paid version might distract from finding the link to the freeware.

This software is created and distributed by RealNetworks, Inc. You will also find download and installation instructions on their Web site.

Winamp

Nullsoft's top-notch, freeware media player

QuickTime Player

    Windows Media Player

Note: if you already have Microsoft Windows installed as your operating system, you may already have the Windows Media Player installed.... however, you might wish to download the latest version to update... follow the links to obtain the version you want - you may have to follow a separate link from the first web page to get a copy that is compatible with older versions of Windows.
